I have loaded my new HP DV3 laptop with Ubuntu 9.04 and it will not play any sounds in the laptop speakers and the mute light on the computer is red and not white.
To fix the problem I had to open a terminal and type this to edit the file
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
options snd-hda-intel model=dell-m4-1
After I rebooted my laptop it started working!!!
